Richie Hawtin teams up with Erica Synths for Bullfrog Drums

The educational instrument combines drum machine, sampler, and CV/gate sequencing functions.

Richie Hawtin has partnered with Latvia’s Erica Synths on the launch of Bullfrog Drums, a new instrument designed as both a creative production tool and an educational platform for learning drum programming, sampling, and live performance techniques.

Co-designed by Hawtin, the unit features a colorful interface inspired by classic drum machines and includes seven sample-based drum voices alongside parameters such as attack, decay, and panning for sound shaping. Users can also load their own material through 16 additional sample banks and create sequences of up to 64 steps.

Bullfrog Drums includes a built-in speaker and joins Erica Synths’ educational Bullfrog series, alongside the original semi-modular Bullfrog and the Bullfrog XL.

Shipping now for €600, the instrument aims to make rhythm programming and performance more accessible while offering enough flexibility for experienced users.
